The World Cup 2018 was over last Sunday and through each game
it united many people from different countries who experienced various
stories — weird, sad, and kind. The kind ones prove that there is still
a lot of sweetness in the world, that miracles do happen, and sometimes
you just have to look closer to see something really interesting.
Bright Side put together some of these moments that are funny, cute, touching, inspirational, and honorable.
An associate professor from Saransk gave a mayor from Columbia and his wife, who booked a hotel in the neighboring city by mistake, a place to stay.
The mother of sports reporter Rama Pantarotto made a lucky charm for Lionel Messi and asked her son to give it to him. After Argentina defeated Nigeria, Pantarotto asked Messi about the charm and was honored to see that Messi was wearing it on his left ankle.
The Japanese national team cleaned their changing room and left a thank you note in Russian after they lost to Belgium.
Japanese supporters cleaned their stands at the stadiums. Their example inspired supporters from other countries as well. The photo below is of the big screen zone in Novosibirsk after a match. Russian supporters helped to clean this zone too.
Croatian supporters thanked Russia with a huge banner that they took to the match of their national team afterward.
“7 years ago, my wife and I fought for our son’s life.” I texted her once, “Our son will be fine because I made a wish that we’d go to the World Cup together in 2018!” Here I am, and my dream is by my side..."
Tom is 5, he loves soccer, and he has a brain tumor. After his first course of radiation therapy which lasted for 6 weeks, Tom was awarded with a copy of the cup for his courage.
This couple from Rostov-on-Don sadly watched the supporters crowd walking to the stadium because they didn’t have tickets. Suddenly, 2 Brazilians came up to them and handed them 2 tickets to the Brazil-Switzerland match — they had spare tickets because their friends couldn’t make it to Russia.
Croatian goalkeeper Danijel Subasic wears a t-shirt during every match with a picture of his friend who died. Danijel plays soccer thanks to this friend and dedicates every victory to him.
“My grandma has worn the same shirt with red, white, blue, and stars to celebrate the 4th of July for more than 25 years. Every year, she wears the exact same shirt. Thanks to the World Cup we finally noticed it’s the flag of Panama. Over 25 years of treason...”
This soccer fan came to Russia from Argentina on a bicycle. It took him 5 years to cover 5 thousand miles and cross 37 countries but he managed.
On June 23 the national teams of Germany and Sweden played in Sochi, while Dima Tarantsev was hit by a car while driving a scooter. Dima was lucky, Kevin Mayer, a paramedic from Germany who was riding in a taxi passing by, administered an indirect heart massage to Dima and saved his life.
As a thank you to their players for beating Germany and helping the Mexican national team advance, the official sponsor of the Mexican team delivered a present to the South Korean embassy in Washington, D.C.
